“No Kings Day” Protest Planned in Vancouver — Organizers Clarify Location and Purpose

No Kings Day Protest Vancouver WA.

Vancouver, WA – This Saturday, Vancouver will join cities across the country taking part in the “No Kings Day” demonstrations, a coordinated national protest opposing what organizers describe as rising authoritarianism and attacks on democratic values.

The event — led locally by Indivisible Greater Vancouver, MoveOn Clark County, and several partner groups — will take place at Gretchen Fraser Neighborhood Park in East Vancouver. The rally begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by a short neighborhood march. Organizers emphasize that this is the only official local event and are urging attendees to gather there for safety, unity, and coordination.

Why “No Kings Day”?

The “No Kings” theme is a symbolic rejection of concentrated political power. Protesters say the movement’s name draws from the nation’s founding ideals — rejecting kings, crowns, and unchecked authority — while calling attention to what they view as executive overreach, suppression of dissent, and weakening of democratic norms.

The national campaign began earlier this year as an answer to displays of military-style power surrounding federal celebrations and political rallies. Activists argue that democracy is built on accountability, not pageantry. Local organizers have adapted the message to focus on issues that hit home in Southwest Washington: fair elections, civil rights, environmental protection, and the right to peaceful protest.

How We Got Here

The movement traces its roots to the 50501 Protests and similar nationwide actions that emerged throughout 2025, uniting groups concerned about creeping authoritarianism and government overreach.

In Vancouver, Indivisible Greater Vancouver has coordinated a series of civic engagement events over the past year — voter-registration drives, “Defend Democracy” marches, and now this “No Kings Day” rally. Organizers say the goal is not partisan but principled: to demonstrate that citizens across the political spectrum expect transparency and respect for democratic institutions.

“We’re out here because we believe no one person should stand above the law,” said a spokesperson for Indivisible Greater Vancouver. “The people are sovereign — that’s the whole point of democracy.”

Clearing Up the Confusion

Over the past week, some social-media posts circulated claiming there would also be a Waterfront Park protest. Local organizers quickly issued a clarification: the Waterfront event is not affiliated with Indivisible Greater Vancouver or any recognized civic groups.

According to a statement shared by the Clark County Democrats and verified by Indivisible, the only coordinated gathering is the one at Gretchen Fraser Neighborhood Park (516 SE 155th Avenue).

“There’s just one official rally in Vancouver,” the group noted. “A separate listing for the Waterfront was created by a private individual. We encourage everyone to come to Gretchen Fraser Park so we can maintain a peaceful, unified message and ensure safety for all participants.”

City officials and law enforcement say they are aware of both postings but expect the Gretchen Fraser event to be the primary focus. Traffic delays in East Vancouver are possible between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

What to Expect on Saturday

  • Location: Gretchen Fraser Neighborhood Park, 516 SE 155th Avenue, Vancouver, WA
  • Time: Rally begins at 10 a.m. with march to follow
  • Tone: Peaceful and family-friendly; signs and creative costumes encouraged
  • Focus: Democracy, community solidarity, and nonviolence

Organizers have provided de-escalation volunteers and medical support stations to help ensure the event remains safe and welcoming for everyone.

A Community Moment

For many in Vancouver, the “No Kings Day” rally represents more than a protest — it’s a chance to gather as neighbors in defense of civic ideals. Whether participants are motivated by political frustration, hope for reform, or a simple belief in fairness, the unifying message remains the same:

No Kings. No Crowns. Just Democracy.
